I’ve read lots of articles on SEO but none of the changes that I’ve made have had the same impact on my CTR as implementing Section Targetting.
I added Section Targetting two days ago based on the advice of Matt Cutts from Google and already my CTR rates are up 50%.
It will take a while for Google to re-index all of my pages so I estimate that the overall effect will be to double my CTR.
Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like Google to emphasise or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content.
If you have Google Adsense ads on your pages then you can Section Targetting by adding the following HTML tag to tell Google where the relevant content starts that you want the ads to match:
<!– google_ad_section_start –>
and the following code to tell Google where the relevant content ends:
<!– google_ad_section_end –>
You can add these tags as many times as you think is necessary, but it’s not a good idea to add this code to small chunks of text as you may do more damage than good as it will be hard for Google to get the gist of the content you’ve tagged.
Let me know if making these changes has a positive effect on your CTR.
Remember you are not allowed to share your actual CTR but feel free to add your percentage uplift.
